Small Bedroom Ideas

Sweet dreams are made of this

Just because you don’t have a large bedroom doesn’t mean you can’t have a stylish, inviting space. Designing an appealing room is simply all about making the most of the space you do have. Looking to create a cozy space that doesn’t feel cramped? Get started with the following inspiring ideas for a restful haven you’ll love.

  • Use paint to your advantage. Paint your bedroom’s ceiling, which will naturally draw the eye up. Also use a neutral palette throughout, which will help brighten your room, making it feel more open.
  • Consider wallpaper. Create a focal point in your room with an accent wall. For example, apply peel and stick wallpaper to the wall behind your bed.
  • Make a statement. Do you only have space for one design element in your room? Then why not make it your bedframe? A frame with a little “wow” factor goes a long way toward adding big impact to a small space.
  • Rethink your headboard. An alternative to a statement bedframe is to swap out your current headboard for a storage headboard. A storage headboard makes use of the space behind your bed, keeping nighttime essentials within arm’s reach.
  • Style your bedding. The fabrics, colors and textures of your sheets, pillowcases, comforter and throw pillows can all elevate the look of your bedroom. Whether you opt for classic white with a subtle pattern or a botanical silhouette, keep in mind that the bedding you choose can go a long way toward making your room look inviting.
  • Take advantage of bins. If you have room below your bedframe, purchase bins with wheels that you can store underneath the frame (and easily slide in and out). Then use them to hold extra sheets, pillowcases and blankets.
  • Use double-duty furniture. A daybed is a great alternative to a regular bed. Not only does it take up less space, but it’s also the perfect spot for putting up your feet and reading. Or, add a slim-profile desk that you can use as a bedside table.
  • Make the most of a nightstand. A nightstand with drawers is ideal for corralling pens, reading glasses, charging cords and the like. Even better? A nightstand with drawers and a lower shelf, where you can place a basket to hold larger items that you use frequently. If you don’t have the space for a nightstand, install floating bedside shelves or a floating nightstand—both of which help to visually open up a room.
  • Add stylish reading lamps. Reading lights don’t have to be ho-hum. You can find space saving wall-mounted reading lamps in all kinds of styles, from traditional and vintage to contemporary.
  • Hide the clutter. Jewelery, makeup, knickknacks and the like often make their homes on surface spaces. But if your bedroom is small, even the most organized of items can make your space look cluttered. To keep surfaces sleek, designate a dresser drawer or two for the small stuff, then divide everything between drawer organizers or small trays that fit inside.
